Top 5 Reasons to Join

Thinking about joining Columbus District Dietetic Association (CDDA), but still on the fence? We've put together a quick list of benefits of membership to help you in making the decision!

1. Networking

Professional organizations are the primary way that people do face-to-face networking. Networking is great for both students and professionals, whether you're looking for a new job or perfectly happy in your current station. CDDA provides opportunities to connect with other nutrition professionals in the Columbus District. Building your professional network enables you to use other professionals as resources in professional development and become a resource to your colleagues.

2. Education

Many professional organizations provide lectures, conferences, and newsletters to keep their members up to date and knowledgeable about new trends and treatments in the field. These types of education are available to members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Locally, however, these benefits are more easily accessible. At monthly CDDA meetings, a presentation is given, and 1 hour of CEU is earned for free--just by being a member! These presentations address a variety of topics in dietetics, and the professionals who provide the education are local to the Columbus District.

3. Leadership Opportunities

The CDDA has five leadership positions, which are open for election yearly. By taking advantage of leadership opportunities, you can develop skills for both professional and personal growth. Apart from elected positions, there are always opportunities to display and develop leadership skills within the organization. Contact us for more details on how to get involved with leadership opportunities!

4. Mentoring Opportunities

Joining your local dietetic association is a great way to learn from more experienced professionals. And not only can you learn from those with more experience, but you can offer your insight and advice to those with less experience. Consider how you developed an interest in dietetics and the people who have supported and advised you along the way. For the continued excellence and growth of our profession, there must be some who are willing to support and advise younger professionals. Through CDDA, you can develop mentoring relationships that may be life-long or only for a season.

5. Community

Finally, joining CDDA is fun! Our monthly meetings are not only for addressing professional issues. We share a meal together as we fellowship with colleagues, build relationships, and network. This provides a sense of unity among dietetic practitioners, regardless of the different areas of dietetics in which we work.

There are so many benefits to joining a professional organization, and we want you to join us at CDDA! Feel free to contact us with any questions about membership or meetings!
